It was designed to be used over and over by undertrained soldiers. It is simple to break down for cleaning, can take an amazing amount of abuse and is an excellent machine gun. It is only a mediocre rifle though. Much rather have my SKS if I want to hit a target at distance.
If im going to try and hit a target at a distance i'd rather have a Barrett M99...but if i want to spray lead in the general direction of who i want to kill i'll stick with the AK
He didn't light it on fire. The handguards on AK's get ridiculously hot after firing a few magazines through them. This is a case of them getting so hot that they caught on fire.
you can fire the kalish after it has been under water, dropped in sand, obviously lit on fire and it keeps coming. It lacks in accuracy after the first few shots, but where do you think the term 'spray and pray' came from?
