it's her fault for not yielding to the emergency vehicle but depending on the laws the ambulance driver can be cited for not making sure the area was safe and all car were stopped.

I have friends who are cops and paramedics and they say the number of people who are completely oblivious to sirens and lights, even when they're directly behind them, is unbelievable. People like that should be banned from driving for life.

I know for a fact that NY does, but at the same time, it makes sense for emergency vehicles to at least slow down at intersections.

When I first came to Japan 7 years ago, I saw an ambulance in Osaka driving through traffic and they had a loud speaker telling people to move to the side, move to the side, but then they came to a red light and stopped and waited for it to turn green.
I think they are a little more aggressive these days.
Also, EMTs in the states do lots of emergency first aid, but Japanese EMTs were banned from doing anything but picking the person up and carrying them to the hospital because people here have this fucked up idea that only experts can do anything, therefore only a licensed doctor can perform any kind of medical aid. They had a high D.O.A rate, I heard.
I'm not 100%, but I think this has changed a bit too, so the EMT can do a little bit.

fast lane? obviously another novice driver, they are called overtaking lanes. and at an intersection, they are just lanes, you go in whichever lane is designated for the direction you are heading, but then an emergancy vehicle wont always use the correct lane. i think the italiens lead by example, if your in the way of a fire truck, they smash you out of the way then lock you up for impeding an emergancy vehicle. the beating is optional depending on how much of a lazy yankee cockbite driver you are.
Obviously I meant the left lane numb nuts. I think they should have used the left lane when going through a red light as to avoid crashing into people who are turning right from the other street. It's simple really.

I worked in private EMS for a while, and there are a shitload of rules on how you drive. Even if the light is green you still have to slow down and clear the intersection, for this exact reason. So, even if it was her fault I'm sure the driver is going to catch hell for it.
