"God puts the creeps running this country in power..." Hmm... Wait a tic. Now I know the founding fathers called for separation of church and state and all, but yet. They did happen to build the country on religion. All the puritans were to thank for that. I guess we turned out pretty bad after all... Well... After the liberals made it a terrible thing to believe in religion...

Vanhoories, Deism and Atheism aren't the same thing. Deism means that God created the universe, but then stopped giving a shit and let nature run its course, and doesn't play a role in everyday life. There's still many deists today.

And Archman, man, I'd love to be as clueless as you obviously are about what has been going on. No, the toolbox of powers claimed by the executive hasn't grown over the past several years, has it? Oh no, of course now, pfffft! Back to the doughnuts and beer...

Actually this country was FAR more religious and intolerant towards non Protestant Christians and especially Pagans, Muslims, Catholics, Muslims, Agnostics and Atheists. People make it sound like our history was secular humanism and we all of the sudden “got religion” in the last few years.

The government has no official stance on religion, quit whining.

      El_Wanko 2007-08-18T11:47:41Z says:

The point isn't against christians. I'm sure christians who have actually read their bible instead of relying on some dude to tell them what it says would realize that, as wonderful or as fucked up as it is, it doesn't say what these cunts are saying it says. This just goes to show the level of cooperation/corruption of the church and state.

Again you argument is weak, there is no singular partnership between “church and state”.
The state does business with all types of organizations, some have religious overtones, some are completely secular. Most Western Democracies work this way, involving the Church, Temple, Mosque or fucking tee pee for that matter into community services is one of the few good points of organized religion.
No one is imposing their religious dogma on you here, if the idea of God offends you, too bad.

    • K-Billy
      K-Billy 2007-08-18T21:38:59Z says:

The idea of a god doesn't offend me. The idea of a corrupt church, that will tell suckers whatever it is told to tell the, does offend me. Do you think any bible scholar could actually interpret Romans 13 to mean we need to submit to this government (basically, submit to a corporation - it's ridiculous)? Obviously they are saying what the government wants them to say.

      El_Wanko 2007-08-19T12:26:50Z says:

So Billy, how far does it have to go before it is too much for you? What if we had cameras everywhere? ID cards that allow us to be tracked? I'm just wondering where you draw the line, so that I can be the first to tell you when it's crossed.

    • El_Wanko
      El_Wanko 2007-08-19T12:38:17Z says:

And submitting to the government and anarchy are not the only two choices. We have a great set of laws, real laws, that comprise common law. That's the law of the land, from before the government became nothing more than a corporation with intricate contracts with the millions of corporations representing us.

What is wrong with following the constitution and common law, rather than the bullshit we have now? Why do we have so many people in prison? You should only be in prison if you're out there to hurt someone, not if you're smoking a joint or giving a whore $20 for a blowjob. If anything, the constitution and common law are much more in keeping with the bible, then the shit they've been replaced with.

There's no need for government in every aspect of our lives. The government was supposed to serve the people, not the other way around. It's not better this way.

    • K-Billy
      K-Billy 2007-08-19T15:50:50Z says:

Dont put words into my mouth El Wanko. If you knew anything about me, you would understand that I arm for the least amount of government. I am all for what you are saying about common law, BTW.

Cameras everywhere and ID cards that track you everywhere do indeed suck. But if you asked an Orson Wells when he was still alive what he thought about everyone someday being connected through cell phones what do you think he would have said?

      K-Billy 2007-08-20T01:30:05Z says:

    • Oranjeboom
      Oranjeboom 2007-08-20T01:49:27Z says:

Wasnt the Patriot Act a problem to you? What about innocent people being held indefinitely without charge or the 700 laws Bush has claimed executive privilege in order to bypass etc etc.

The way I see it, before you said "enough is enough" it would be at the stage where you had to call the CIA & ask permission to go to work or before making a phone call.

Yak's right. Writings about Jesus only appeared decades after he was said to have ascended. You'd think that at least one person would see him cure a blind man and then rush home to write about it in his diary. On top of that, Jesus left no writings of his own. So either he didn't exist, or he was illiterate. And the son of God being illiterate is certainly something to think about.
