They're all pretty much the same type of music. Why limit yourself, is my point.
Well, I have other tastes outside of the metal genre, but metal was the topic of conversation. And within the genre, the four artists I listed are each pretty unique.

I like Satyricon. They had a few shitty albums, but the newest one is pretty good.
Old = The first 2 albums and ep, before they turned into a shitty prog-rock band..
Mako, you've always seemed decently intelligent but isn't it kind of dim to point out that all those are the same type of music when in fact that's exactly the point, to discuss what examples of one kind of music, in this case metal, are? I mean they weren't talking about musical taste in general.
Urkel already gave his answer but say a band only had two albums. One could be released in 1970 and the next in 1990 and someone could still reference it as "'old' and 'new' insert band here."

Yeah Mako, just because they're all in the metal genre, doesn't mean they're all the same. Fuck, metal probably has more genres and sub-genres than any other type of music, and the 4 bands listed by urkel aren't even in the same league as each other.

Leviathan was still a metal album. Blood Mountain not so much.
I guess I can see where Blood Mountain is a little borderline. It was also their first album I came across and the one that got me hooked on 'em.
They were one of my favorite bands. Blood mountain made me not want to listen to them anymore. The few songs I've heard from the new album sound even worse.
