The "Progressive" movement in Iran has actually changed many opinions there. From what I've learned they are trying to prgress as a society without diluting the importance of religion. That's just incredibly hard given the interaction Islamic law and some of the concessions involved in social change. That's why the picture is such a big deal in Iran because it would be a relative "first" in that culture.
