i saw i screen capture today of a game someone made combining dragon ball z and duck hunt, it was kinda of lame using ki attacks and power ups on water foul and you couldn't kill the dog either.

there's no start button in the classic contra code.
i don't know what you mean by 'classic' and don't care, that is the nes code and really the only good version or release of a contra game so anything else doesn't matter
you re right about select for 2p, but theres no start press in it, or at least isn't needed. in classic nes contra that is, god knows konami varied the code plenty of times.
and the best contra is 3 on snes.
Well, in most cases that would be the start you hit to begin the game(almost all game cheat codes have the game beginning start in them to indicate the end of the code) but if you finish the code before the screen scrolls into place hitting start once will bring up the menu and hitting again will start the game, so I usually just hit start several times until the player mode starts flashing. Yeah, I'm inpatient like that.
The 30 extra 'life insurance policies' are for slackers!

there was a time, nix, where I could play through the entire game without dying once. but it took using that code many, many times to get the game memorized. now it just makes the game no fun, you can literally walk through the entire game with the 30 lives and resets.
The start is included as it starts the game, and all you boners skipped select because you didn't have a friend to play with.
