Uh they are still cops. Before going on duty you are given a brief. Top suspects they are looking for, a lost child, recently stolen cars, etc. Basically whatever is a felony. You are then told your beat. People do have options to ride a bicycle when it is nice but the majority of the time you are forced to use a bike. There are a couple reasons why they use bikes- cuts cost on fuel (you get about $100 allowance weekly for food/gas) more mobile in urban areas and parks. But they love the fact people underestimate them, they still have a gun and walkie talkie. Like how some people refuse to be pulled over by a cop on a bicycle because you can get away with it. Until they find out a minute later the cop asked for back up specifically a squad car.
