To be fair though, the theory of evolution never really totally explains everything we can observe about life on Earth either. I'm really not opposed to entertaining the idea that at some point, somewhere in the history of the planet, there may have been some sort of intelligent stimulus when it comes to the creation and development of life.

scientists don't "doubt" their carbon dating techniques... there is just mixed opinions on how accurate it is, and no matter how inaccurate it could possibly be, it is WAY more accurate than anything printed in a book that is less then 2000 years old before any sort of scientific theory existed.

I dont think creationism should be taught or classified as "scientific." However, the creationist theory should at least be discussed as a possibility. Evolution is being taught in school when there are major holes still lurking in the theory. It's amazing the amount of "faith" people stock in a theory that has major holes. The people who say, "we will figure it out someday anyway, and you are an idiot if you dont believe it already." This is not an acceptable answer. Creationism should be discussed in some form or another at least. Perhaps evolution and creationism BOTH play a part in our history? It would certainly fill in some holes. To blithely say I am right and you are an idiot is quite ignorant.

    • Oranjeboom
      Oranjeboom 2009-02-25T20:14:31Z says:

The problem is, K-Billy, many of these 'holes' creationists point out, aren't holes. Many 'holes' which have been pointed out by retarded creationists on here have been proven wrong by myself, never mind other people too. Creationists like to say that there is no proof of 'links' in evolution, showing the changes that mammals/fish/birds have gone through, I proved that to be untrue. Idiotic creationists has claimed that a god much have invented live opposed to the big band because life can't come from nothing. I have proven that it is not only impossible for there to be 'nothing' but life can come from as close to 'nothing' as you can imagine & I provided proof with references to experiment.

It isn't that the evidence isn't there. It is that moronic creationists don't know about it, refuse to acknowledge it or simply do not understand it.

That was the bit that got me the most. The link would be 1.5 & there are fossils showing the link, yet creationists keep saying that the lack of evidence of a link discredits evolution & its just soooo wrong.

      Oranjeboom 2009-02-25T20:53:11Z says:

"The platypus genome also has both reptilian and mammalian genes associated with egg fertilisation. It also lacks the mammalian sex-determining gene SRY, meaning that the process of sex determination in the Platypus remains unknown. A draft version of the platypus genome sequence was published in Nature on 8 May 2008, revealing both reptilian and mammalian elements, as well as two genes found previously only in birds, amphibians and fish. More than 80% of the Platypus' genes are common to the other mammals whose genomes have been sequenced and the study has proved that the platypus was the first species to diverge from reptile to mammal."

& that is just a little snippet. Open your eyes a little...?

Scientific theory, Scientific Fact Thats pretty funny. Funny how it changes especially. Lets see...at one time the world was flat and science was so in tune with religion that claiming it was round sent you directly to hell and the authorities would expedite your arrival there. How about how science in medicine thought that you could bleed out impurities to save someone. "Dont argue with me mister, I am a trained in this scientific procedure." How about them dinosaurs, Hey they were reptile monsters, Wait a minute! Check that..they were more like birds...Yeah they didnt roar, they kind of screeched, look at the skeleton, like birds..Oh, nope maybe not. Getting away from that now.

    • yak
      yak 2009-02-26T05:48:49Z says:

the difference there godzilla is that science uses a scientific method in order to solve theories, it was never believed as FACT that dinosaurs were reptile monsters, it was just one of the best thought out theories at the time, that has of course been proven wrong (and within 200 years of discovering evidence of dinosaurs). science in its current state isn't that old, so a lot of the theories are still being revised, religion has not changed since it was created, because it can't break from the religious canon very easily or it starts to destroy the entire structure of the belief system. saying something like dinosaurs were believed to be coldblooded reptiles instead of warm blooded mammals is very understandable based on biology, especially when you are studying things that are millions of years old... HOWEVER its not that hard to study rock formations that have been doing the same thing for billions of years and fit that into proving that the human race was not living around any time even REMOTELY near when the dinosaurs existed.. in order for that to be true it would be like saying the moon was made out of cheese in this day and age and actually believing it.

    • Godzilla
      Godzilla 2009-02-26T06:07:04Z says:

Well it seems that neither is supported enough then. To me the Bible is just a book.but if god is all that superbeing that it is claimed to be. And was capable of creating everything, it could have created it with dinosaur bones if it wanted. In fact if it was out strolling around looking for a good place for people it might pick a planet capable of swupporting life and wipe out those big lizards for the new chosen life. I love science, knowing science it is much easier to believe in the idea of a god, as to believe in this great universe of ours..all these miraculous things that came together to form life just happened by coincidence.

    • 42Adams
      42Adams 2009-02-26T07:08:16Z says:

There is no such thing as scientific fact, everything is a theory. It's just that when a theory has 100s of years of evidence supporting it, and nothing that can contradict it, people tend to regard it as a fact. Our understanding of gravity is still just a theory for example. The thing that separates science from religion though is if someone could produce some compelling evidence contradicting our current understanding of gravity science would change the theory. Religion gets its information from ancient texts and ignores all contradictory evidence, and will never change. There is nothing you can tell someone who truly believes in this nonsense that will convince them its not true.

Orangie, I just responded to your Uray/Miller experiment and then it just got erased. Fuck. Anyway, you failed to mention the counter arguments. "It is now believed the early earth's atmosphere did not contain predominantly reductant molecules. Also, another objection is that this experiment required a tremendous amount of energy. While it is believed lightning storms were extremely common on the primitive Earth, they were not continuous as the Miller/Urey experiment portrayed." To give credit, organic compounds were formed. But perhaps the experiment itself was a little off.

Here are several problems with taking the Bible literally:

    1) How many people have ever read the original Bible? Not a translation, I'm talking the very original hand-written documents in their original language? Anyone who knows even a tiny bit about the history of the Bible knows that a great deal has changed over the centuries due to translation.

    2) Did God physically write the Bible himself? No. Even the most completely brain-washed religious person has to admit that the Bible was written by humans. And the Bible itself says that humans are all imperfect and can never be perfect, which means that the Bible is imperfect. The only thing supposedly written directly by God himself were the 10 Commandments.

I find it funny how most of you call us Christians "non-thinkers" when you've never read more than a page of the bible (or the New Testament) for yourself. 4 separate accounts from 4 totally different people are bound to have some inaccuracies but on the whole most of the LARGE points match up, which means that they are true. This part of history is one of the most frequently recorded portions in all of recorded history and somehow religious people have it wrong? I'm sure most of you people who don't know Jesus didn't even know that. I'm also sure there is a lot more you don't know. But in time I hope and pray that you find a way to see the truth because we are all made to connect with god at some point. To say that all religious believers don't think is itself thoughtless and hypocritical.

btw I'm fine with people criticizing the bible but I KNOW that a lot of people don't really understand what they are criticizing in the first place. i respect people who understand that the bible is a true account of history by the people living it at the time and, TRULY understand that the people writing it only wrote the history down because of their interactions with Jesus and the compelling feeling of god, not knowing that their jounrals would ever be read in the year 2009. I respect the person who understands all those facts but still has something intelligent to say about the accuracy of science and such. Thats because I do study Science and I take time to understand the opinions that contradict mine. I just hope that you can do the same. If you bash the bible and don't know much about it, do some homework before you speak. And I say that with love! - no disrespect. Oh and if you're wondering what a Christian is doing on MS...well...I like my fair share of F***ed up S*** too.
