    Bumfuckio 2007-01-22T08:55:08Z says:

In terms of influence, he is one of the most important drummers in history.

On August 10, 1997, Peart's daughter and only child, 19-year-old Selena Taylor, was killed in a single-car accident somewhere between Ottawa and Toronto. His common-law wife of 22 years, Jaqueline Taylor, succumbed to cancer only 10 months later on June 20, 1998. Peart, however, maintains that her death was the result of a "broken heart" and called it "a slow suicide by apathy. She just didn't care."

    [edit] Awards and honours
Peart has received the following awards in the Modern Drummer magazine reader's poll:

    Hall of Fame: 1983

neil peart is far and away my favorite drummer and one of the top 2 or 3 best ever. this particular solo isn't exactly one of his best, though. it's close to what he did on 'exit stage left', but changed up a little. he's easily the most coordinated drummer in modern times. each limb can play independently of the other - play 4 different rhythms/tempos. one clip i like is on youtube. search for "neil peart subdivisions" and look for 'anatomy of a drum solo'. it's only a couple of years old and the cameras are fixed on him throughout the song. (however, even he lists buddy rich as the greatest ever and i'll always call peart the best.)

Why didn't anyone mention Mike Mangini on here? He's a fairly beastly drummer. The guy layers so many time signatures on top of eachother at once it's ridiculous...And he hit a snare 1203 times in a minute, which is pretty cool, and the record. (although I realize that doesn't make him a good drummer).
