I'm trying to figure out the planes on deck. Looks like Super Hornets to me, along with some apaches, but it's hard to tell. And Tomcats. Ah, poor tomcat...
I assume it's perhaps a statement celebrating 40 years of nuclear powered warships/aircraft carriers. I'm not sure they could have given the full explanation you so desired seeing as they had to make it big enough to be photographed from the air in the first place. Think newspaper headline.
I was unaware the US Navy flew Apaches from their aircraft carriers. Aren't they normally another larger type of helicopter used for search and rescue, insertion and anti-submarine? If you're still trying to finish off your list, I think I see an E-2C Hawkeye.
trust the yanks to fuck up the most singularly significant equation ever in the history of the world. (It's a shame the next boat isn't in the picture. It has yankie matlots spelling out 2+2=5).
15 F-14 Tomcats, 17 F-18 Hornets, 3 E-2 Hawkeyes, 1 C-2 Cod, 3 A-6 Intruders, 3 EA-6b Intruders, 3 Seahawks... that's my take. (7 Years Navy, USS Constellation, USS Independence, USS Ranger) This is a nuke carrier. I suspect photoshop as all carrier's numbers are visible on the bow of the ship, and you cannot see one here at all, and most birds are parked T.O.W. (Tail Over Water) to save space.
liberatethis, you know you really aren't funny dude. I notice more and more of your comments are just lame attempts at getting outrage and attention. Why does majordix keep calling these classic muchosucko pix? I think he's a classic middle-aged man with too much time on his hands.

im pretty sure 40 is a ref to the number of craft on the deck
JECS, there's more than 40 crafts on board. I think Chairman is probably right about the anniversary but who really gives a fuck?

It must have took a lot of seamen to form that...
America rules! Make Canada our bitch!
AMERICA FUCK YEAH.....no!
Our Navy doesn't fly Apaches, only the Army does. Those might be Sea Hawks on the deck.
chairman_of_the_bored you're basically right..It's a 4o year celebration
for the USS Enterprise CVA(N)-65... which is nuclear powered..
