we just picked 2 copies of this up today and a ps3 for admin :P
as far as consoles go, i prefer them to pc's for a lot of games personally... i hate computers so much i don't like being on them to play games as well mucho and crap, which sucks cuz the best rts games are for pc, as well as warhammer online which we are in beta for is pc ;)

Gotta say I love my PS3. Added plus is that it plays blu-ray discs.
i saw this game played on a huge screen at work yesterday, and i also got to try it out for a while. it looks a lot better than the PS2 GTA's, and has better gameplay and physics. the ragdolls when you or an NPC is hit by a car are pretty fucking cool.
i'm thinking about buying a PS3 with GTA4 as soon as i have time.
ive been reading some articles interviewing various publishers and it seems that lots of them are starting to favor ps3 just for the fact that they can dev on bluray disc for the added size... however xbox is still cheaper and a lot more games... ps3 will have a few key games this year tho so have to see what they end up like... one main reason for a ps3 tho is because of bluray movies, since its basically one of the best players out still for the price
yak, a few times you have said that the 360 > PS3. The 360 has been out much longer so the number of games is obviously going to be higher. People don't just play these consoles for a few months, they last a long bloody time & more games come out, making that point redundant.
I really can't understand why you or a number of other reviewers don't take that into account when advising people to buy the 360. It is(was) such a short sighted point of view.

people don't buy video game consoles to just watch them gather dust.. if the system doesn't have enough good games its not worth it.. period.... ps3 up until very recently was nothing more then a glorified media station....
as you can see most games now aren't going exclusive ps3 for the fact that ps3 has a LOT of ground to make up, can you imagine if gta would have remained exclusive playstation how huge that would have been for ps3?
ps3 has metal gear solid coming out so thats going to be interesting... so far the wii is kicking their asses so badly its not even funny tho ;/
for the system with the least amount of actual game releases it has the best signature titles... have to hand it to nintendo for that.
when i tell a person what system i think they should get i take into account a lot of factors :P

i have to agree with you, yak, but there are a few games coming out(including GTA4) which makes it worth for me to buy a PS3.
i'm also more drawn to the PS3 because of the the bluray player function.

Nope this game does not have the large area that andreas had and has better physics as well as controls and a better story, so far from playing it. Also they took away the having to eat and exersice to keep your health up

Its not just the controller, they changed the controls...now you have to use the trigger buttons to drive...takes some getting used to...

Actually, the controls in this GTA are harder than the others. They easily slide and it's almost impossible to hit sharp turns at high speeds cause the car just slides like crazy.

I never really played san andreas so I dont know, but I like the fact that you can swim in this game...I jumped in the ocean and I was suprised to find I didnt die...and then a boat ran me over and gliched and I was in it and took over...that was sweet...

I actually got a late start into videogames. I played a little Pac-man back in the 80's and I owned a Commodore 64, but that was about it until the 1990's.

This game is by far the best game out to date. There's so much crap you can do in this game. I like messing with the pedestrains. They finally added more variety. So you don't even see double pedestrians and they say a ton of crap. The soundtrack is huge too!

Chipping your comp for the pirate copies can be a little expensive over here. That plus the paranoia of it breaking and you being left with no warranty.
We must be very risk averse & prepared to pay the extra for that little peace of mind.
Im not sure how viable my idea is & I know a lot of research would need to be carried out, buut here goes..
How about they make all games & movies free, everyone would get them & like now only the good ones will really become popular. Pack the game/movie with adverts (acceptable level, anyway) & make money that way. The audience would increase by a factor of about 50 & piracy would be all but extinct. Obviously the current system doesn't work because as you say, games are easy to acquire on copy and films are all over the net, not to mention music.
its not a bad idea. eventualy they will have to find a new solution. theyr abuse on high prizes is causing this response by the people, im for legalizing pirate shit till these greedy assholes cut down prizes
there are a lot of publishers doing this already to help suppliment their development costs and such, tons of mmorpg's are free but have advertising models, lots and lots of more games are having advertisements in them like in driving games etc are putting ads onto billboards etc, the problem is that these ads aren't easy to quantify into revenue for the advertisers, much like with television, which is why you are seeing more and more tv commercials having web addresses that they specifically use to 'catch' their effectiveness of their tv ad campaigns, same with viral video commercials...
the best thing that i've heard so far, is to put a surcharge on internet connections then start a plan to monitor/pay developers based on their distributions etc, still very rough way of how it could be done, in canada we already pay extra surcharge on our blank media (cdr dvdr etc) for this exact reason. advertising is one possible way but advertising isn't completely the answer, with movies and tv it might be one way to help, especially tv episodes, lots of people would download tv shows if they put some advertisements in them just because of the ease of getting them, the cbc (i think cbc) in canada has started looking into this, releasing tv episodes for free online, even other networks are starting to offer some of their shows online, hell with the it crowd in the uk they had the entire NEXT weeks episode on their website you could watch if you wanted before it aired on tv ;)

my huge gripe at the moment with digital distribution is the fact that it costs the EXACT same as going to the store and buying it... to protect retail stores i guess.... but it makes no sense... no cost for printing a manual.. no cost in pressing cd/dvd no cost in shipping only a cost in bandwidth (and that is fucking cheap)
Our major networks (ABC, NBC, & CBS) offer tv shows online. You can't download them, but you can watch them through their site. Ads are sprinkled throughout. You can't fast forward, you just have to sit through the 10-30 seconds of ads to get back to the show. It helps keeps fans interested if you think about it, so they'll continue to watch the regular programming which brings in bigger revenue. Plus, it lets new people watch from the beginning of the season, and hopefully "hooks" them as well.

Well I guess that I wasn't too far off of the mark with my idea then. The convenience of the internet is far too powerful of a force to compete against or try to police. Like anything else throughout history, organisations have to adapt to the external influences & piracy/copyright infringement over the web is unstoppable. As soon as they take down one site, another will pop back up in its place. As you have said that it is already happening now, I can only assume that in the near future this will roll out and become the norm. If the current producers/directors or whoever dont like it, tough shit. This is just how the world works now & they don't have monopoly over distribution any more. They either have to keep up with what is happening or they will be left behind, lose revenue & die, its inevitable.
This will mean Tom Cruise will not be paid 100mil for a movie any more. If they cut the actors salaries that would help production costs and then we wouldn't have assholes in hollywood with the money to spout off their "ideas" on how to make things better
