The same people who staged the gulf of tonkin incident to push the u.s. into the vietnam war. and the same people who demolished world trade center buildings one, two and seven, to justify and invasion of the middle east. All of this information is out there for any person to read, it's just easier to make a joke about it. Hey the news is what it is. You have to have a little gumption and listen to everybody's angle then check the facts out...that's just how it is anymore. Sabersaw makes a good point, which was made by Michael Moore in his gun documentary. Report only about crime, murder, violence, theft, terror, rape, etc..., keep the population fearful and they are easier to control.

The funny part of the gun documentary is that he later admitted that school shootings were the result of drugged up (on prescription antidepressants) kids.

We could assume anyone that is going to go on a murder spree has something wrong their brains, like being under the influence of anti-depressants. That craziness AND the easy access to lots of firearms created the shooting situation.

I knew you'd come with that. But, the strength of the weapon is an issue. If strength were no issue, we could easily substitute gun for atom bomb or potato peeler and expect the same results. Of course, the results will be different. Guns make it easier to kill a larger number of people than knives, for instance.
The results aren't different though. Every time they institute more gun control, the results are the same: fewer gun murders, but at least as many murders overall. It might seem that there should be fewer since shooting someone is a simple one-step way to get rid of them, while most other methods are more difficult, but it never works out that way. People will kill just as much, even if it's inconvenient.

I didn't say weapons were equal. I like the idea of guns because they allow smaller people to defend themselves too.
The murder rates only went up in the cases where Canada instituted more gun control, as well as the UK and Australia. These numbers are pretty easy to find online. I'm sure most of them are in posts I made when COTB was still around. There are also numbers for individual states that have put in more gun control, with the same results.
I know of no example where gun control has lowered the murder rate. Admittedly, I haven't checked every country in the world. However, in all the times I've made this argument, no gun control nut has been able to point to a country, state, or city, where it actually lowered the murder rate.
There doesn't need to be any more talking points. Gun control doesn't save lives. Fact.
