I know how the pricing is done because I worked for the execs and was privy to things you are not allowed to know. Next time you want to blame someone, first ask why the government taxes fuel, raises the tax and then says its "big oil" fault while they drive vehicles provided to them, powered by fuel provided to them, by american taxes. "Big oil" as you call it makes less money a barrel then the government taxes off that gallon of gas! The only way "big oil" can make money is to farm a field and bank on the millions that is might yield, and while they do that the EPA is taxing them for "any" infraction of environmental damage done - even if nothings done. There's just a flat charge 'just in case'. And I can't even begin to tell you how much money "big oil" spends on "green" issues. Damn the dollars. Plus grants to local communities to "green up" the area.

Yes fuel alternatives would be great, but OPEC blocks what they can. OPEC aint big oil, it's ragheads that want the monopoly. They have tried for many years to manipulate the american politics to get their way. "Big oil" as you call it, fucking idiot, has to cater to OPEC because when they try to use other sources, say Britain, the EPA some how steps in and finds some reason to block the trade and there's always a politician backing them up. Why?

I believe gas prices are the way they are because of global competition? no? its not gas running out. im not that educated on this but i doubt, politically wise, that they are being raised simply for profit.. atleast not at this magnitude. This is basically fueling our recession. if greed alone was the reason for these prices im sure shit would be going down. but i dont know.

Gas prices won't go down no matter where we drill, and how much we get. Oil companies inflate prices and control the supply. I've NEVER seen prices go down since I started driving in 1996. No reasion to believe they'll go down in the future, either. They might go down a bit to appease people, but they'll gio right back up again.

Opening up ANWAR, the Florida Gulf Coast, the outer continental shelf, the oil shale lands out west and other areas to oil exploration and recovery, OPEC countries would immediately put downward pressure on prices in hopes that they could derail or forestall the new American effort.
Plus. It would be great if we could build a shit ton of new refineries as well. It's like a fucking bottleneck with all those different grades of fuel we currently have. All we need are, what, three? And then diesel? THat's it. We dont need 30 different grades of fuel out there. You can thank the environmental wackos out there for helping to throw in a wrench.
The upshot of it all is that the middle East will run out of oil and the US will have delayed drilling for so long that it, suddenly. becomes the number one producer...
