Actually, it's a physiological reaction to the sudden expulsion of air. It does allow you to hit harder, but not because you're screaming. It's the same reason weight lifters breath out forcefully when they lift.

I trained in Taekwondo (for some reason my spell checker flagged that and suggested wonderbra, wtf) for 3 years, and only quit because my family was moving. I could snap this kid in half with one punch. For a real power punch he is also doing it incorrectly. He may know a bit about the martial arts, but one good sidekick to the face and this twig is out.
