Ive never done much shark fishing, but I spent quite a bit of time watching people do it off those piers. Im more of a coho/chinook salmon, and steelhead kind of guy
My Penn Senator cost me well over $125.00 25 years ago and I'm not going to leave my rod go to the ocean unless that shark breaks it and carries it off itself.
If you ever make it to Alaska, I recommend taking a Halibut charter. Its an ugly mofo (Looks like an enormous bugeyed flounder), but probably the best tasting fish ever. Plus you get 70+ pounds of it even after the charter takes some to reduce your fee. Better than lobster, Id say
The fin would make the shark 20+ feet. There aren't anymore greats that big. The fucking idiots have fished them all out since the "jaws" scare era of going for the big prize. About 16 feet is all there is now. Takes an estimated 75 more years for them to reach 20+ feet.
Look up the Farallon Islands...great whites that make the yearly visit there often average between 18 and 20 feet in length. And it takes about 15-20 years for them to reach that length.

no one would let go of that rod and reel...thats why
I was thinkin' the same thing, BCWI...
Sharks dont swim towards the beach when hooked, they try and head for the open ocean and deeper water.
looks like some fellow fishermen on here.... :))

I used to fish quite a bit. No better excuse to go up in the mountains and walk the creeks and stuff.

I'd get seasick on a boat, but salmon fishing there is on my list of stuff to do, that and catching some bonefish down south.
