I'm pretty sure I heard a couple years ago that they were planning on getting rid of the penny.
Alberta use to be that way, everything was rounded to the dollar... no fucking around with change..
The is some dumbass who started some protest to keep the penny last year. I highly doubt it will be around that much longer unless copper prices come way down.

Considering pennies are mostly made of zinc and hardly any copper, I guess even zinc is too expensive to use a penny anymore. Yay runaway inflation!!

Yeah zinc became too expensive a couple years back. Canada uses steel for their pennies now.
Nickels are mostly copper (except in canada where they are steel too.) Metal prices have gone up over the years but the US dollar has fallen a fucking shitload too. He didn't mention that part.
The Royal Mint has been making copper coins with a steel lining for a few years now. Plus we get lots of your US$ for our £ now
