i guess cause LAN to me means the non wireless part of the network and for a device to be connected to a network without utilizing wireless technology it has to be connected with a cable, and hence tied down

hey dw, im pretty sure my video card is dying but i want a second tech's opinion. im using my laptop but i have it hooked to an external 24" monitor. when i run both the laptop screen and the external display, there is some faint dead pixels that flicker in random locations on both screens for just a few seconds at a time. ive been running the external display as the primary and the laptop screen disabled, its worked fine for the last few weeks like that but tonight its started to flicker like theres a refresh problem. it only seems to do it whenever its sat in one spot for a long time where the bottom gets hot. is this a sign that its going out? i never had either problem when i used to run it with an external 19" but i just want to be sure. its a few years old and im just assuming the card might be on its last leg. i need to sell it on ebay before it dies.
and another question for all you CPA's on here. im doing a paid internship right now for a local hospital doing general IT stuff. since this laptop is a few years old and (possibly)going dead, can i buy a new one and take it as a tax writeoff if i use it for work?
get work to buy it for you, that is where all of my IT equipment comes from, you just have to check it at the door when you leave :/
about your graphics card, i would check the software and firmware for updates first but it most likely is a hardware problem. heat will do that, a cooling pad is the best investment a laptop owner can put money into to extend the life of the computer and its parts. usually the battery goes first, then the cooling fan and graphics card, after that cpu over heating and auto shut downs! loads of fun.
a 'few years' can be a long time for a laptop especially if you run it all the time without off breaks, I hibernate mine whenever I will be away for more then 30 mins but it still doesn't help the hours on end I can sit there on it without it getting a chance to cool down and rest.
my laptop crashed two days ago while I was running unreal tournament, it corrupted windows and it took me two days to fucking get back online.
