lightning travels way faster than that. and why would someone happen to be filming a plane...?

wouldn't lightning travel at something like the speed of light...?

    • BukkakeHaduken
      BukkakeHaduken 2008-01-15T18:13:46Z says:

i could be wrong, but i think the current travels at the speed of light but the actual ionization of the air that you see frying actually in slow motion photography kind of travels slowly. like the streak of light can take a tenth of a second to hit the ground. why did i write that i don't even give a fuck about what i'm saying.

      Godzilla 2008-01-15T19:27:16Z says:

Jeeze folks. Lightning travels at the speed of electricity.

    • Godzilla

And light travels much, much faster.

    • Asphalt
      Asphalt 2008-01-15T19:50:43Z says:

Godzilla is right. Lightning is the arc-ing of electricity through the atmosphere towards a neutral ground (ie: the earth) so that earth and atmosphere gain balanced charges. Thus light isnt part of this discussion... though it is a byproduct of the anomaly

    • JamesTKirk
      JamesTKirk 2008-01-15T20:13:54Z says:

      Light == 187,000 miles/second.

And no, i didn't have to look it up.

Also, the strike shown in this video could have had multiple arcs in it, therefore looking odd the way it did.

i was on a plane that was struck once..I didn't feel anything or see anything but the captain decided to announce it for some reason..maybe just to bug me

    • Godzilla
      Godzilla 2008-01-15T20:30:25Z says:

Electricity==somewhere around 120,000 miles/hr. but when they go past I cant quite see the difference... Light = warp speed Lightning = impulse power.

      TheCatLady 2008-01-15T22:16:38Z says:

Well, there's a few that will know what the reason dik didn't feel anything. The whole electrified cage thing. Stand in a cage, electrify it and it won't hurt you. I could look up the name of it, cuz I forget it, and be a smart ass. But someone will probably know it.

I've heard of people driving and getting hit by lightning and nothing happened. As long as you are inside you're fine. If you were in the bed of a truck or something you'd be fucked I'm sure.

It's the potential. Lightning has the potential to fuck you up, but doesnt always do it.....
