Well to be fair, the idea of evolution isn't quite as linear as most people concieve it to be...or at least in darwins terms
People tend to confuse genetic evolution (the concept that an organism can grow and adapt to better suit its surroundings) with the technological/social evolution of a civilization (where a civilization can either progress in a positive manner, or digress negativly in terms of technological advancment or social constructs - often seen after a country/empire falls victim to war, disease, disaster etc.)
On the other hand, what we have here seems to be a hybrid...both a severe step backwards on the social and genetic spectrums...
Actually, he proves natural selection is real because the chances of him reproducing are very slim.
...And as far as evolution goes, there's always the occasional freak mutation thrown into the mix.
