Ok TWUNT, true, the Vietnam "War" was technically a loss. However, the reason for the loss wasn't the NVA or the VC. It was the American Senior brass that did us in. Had we actually adopted the tactics of Col. Hackworth on an area wide basis instead of trying to fight WWII again, we would have more than decimated any enemy in Vietnam and Cambodia. Col. Hackworth developed tactics that the NVA and the VC could not, under any circumstances, cope with militarily or otherwise. In Hackworth's battle area he ass fucked all oposition, offensive and defensive, that came his way. However, like I said, OUR top brass didn't adopt the strategies necessary for area-wide victory. This is essentially the same problem Coalition forces had right after Saddam was ousted. We didn't practice counterinsurgency warfare tactics directly after we took control. Had we done so, and protected the local population as well, the scene in Iraq would be a much brighter one. Now, as far as the US being on its way down, there is widespread consensus that
