First time I played this I was in the subway in Boston and got physically ill. Took me months to realize this was a fucking gem of an album!
My favorite is Disco Volante.
Just good to sit around and listen to.

I think it's great that Mike Patton can make this kind of dissonant, abstract music but can also make good hip hop, having worked with people like The X-ecutioners and Rahzel. However most (not all) hip-hop is purely focused on image and very few musicians who pertain to that genre would be as willing to accept as diverse a selection of music as Patton. The man is an enigma, and that is why Mr Bungle is better than hip-hop

The obvious response is that rock vocalists, or at least the ones that might be called musicians, use their voices as instruments and produce melodies with them. Rappers don't necessary do that.

I think it's harder than you think. I can't do it. And rapping is just one part of hip hop. There is the musical side (beats, samples, etc... mixed together) and the actual written lyrics. I really appreciate clever lyrics.
Also, I've heard you say yourself, that "good guitar players are a dime a dozen." How special is being able to play the guitar?
