Arguing by calling him a socialist is ridiculous, the economy won't fix itself because people are not going to be willing to spend any money due to fear. Republicans think that by giving tax breaks to americans, it will cause them to spend more. But that is only a theory. The american public is most likely going horde any income and as a result, the value of the dollar will go down. The best plan of action right now is to give the government more control over the market until it can get on its feet again. Buying government bonds would be the best thing average people could do at this time.

By buying bonds/spending money, it will stimulate the economy.
By money not being in circulation, the economy will fail. The treasury department will have to create more money lowering the value of the dollar, so that they can help all the failing banks/businesses by lending out loans. If we do not lend them this money through bonds, we will just get taxed more or they will create more money. At least through bonds, we can make interest.
buying bonds is not spending money, it's saving money and you can't have both.

The only jobs that were lost were from companies getting sloppy with what they were hiring and they were useless or non-needed jobs. The companies that went bankrupt were wreakless at the top and were not taking care of their loans.
And why did those loans fail?
Because people are greedy on their own, and at least with the government you can curb that greed with checks and balances. The banks giving out these loans are ran privately. They can do anything the fuck they want.
Also, people have stopped spending at a dramatic rate. These idiots, (90% of america) saw line graph of the stock heading downward and ran for the hills. I've said this before, there is a balance of how much the gov should intervene, and how much they should let it play out.

Most of the Fortune 500 companies are doing great and AIG is only suffering in the Mortgage lending that they were literally forced to give loans to people with no money down with bad credit because of congress.
