actuallt cat, gpr or gsr is a gunshot/ powder residue kit, used to determine if the person in question fired a weapon within the last couple of days

But, the shape, contents and burn from gsr is used for many thing, measuring distance of shot, measuring ANGLE of shot, showing type of gun and in some cases ammunition. GSR is not specific to the gun powder and burns sometimes left on people after firing a gun. GSR = gun shot residue, as in, any residue left from firing a gun. It is usually used along side BSP - blood splatter patterns.
