They are no more an occupying force than anyone else. The area has been fought over since the dawn of written history.

During the whole time of the so-called truce, rockets were fired into Israel. You see in Religeous types of armies a solid central command is a very difficult thing. I think the whole Sunni/Shiite thing really shows that. That is why Hamas struggles to control their fighters and Israel stuggles to control their settlers who also think God gave them this land. Hamas has to recognize Israel or the world will never know peace. And by the way, when were talking about outside support, that if Iran and Syria weren't supplying Hamas, they wouldn't have rockets. They sure aren't making them themselves. Those two countries are as much to blame as Israel and the US. If we can ever get a will treaty there, I will be the first to start a clamor about Israel and their oppressive ways, but how can you expect them to work on social skills in a climate with one side ever backing down from calling for another countries complete destruction. (I imagine the spelling police will get me after this.)
