not exactly sure why people can hate on macs now that they are intel powered..... i mean..... you get great hardware.... and you can now also run windows either natively by booting windows... or INSIDE osx by running parallels.... and since all macs are duo core now as well.. you can even run windows on one of the cpus while the other is running osx :P

so um yeah.... you can play any game on a mac now.... and now you can run any os on a mac ;/

not to mention leopard looks sweet

Yep, and you still get to dispose your computer at your nearest tip within the same year you bought it due to a few outdated performance bottlenecking parts.

Plus who ever said Intel was the reason PC's are decent? Ever heard of AMD? Yeah, they're the gaming standard, Mac always seems to be one step behind despite marketting as if they are one step ahead (Wow, make movies, I could do that in windows 95 with a small movie making package.)

It's not that mac are generally horrible, they are easy to use and all-in-one systems. It's the monopolization and "Fuck everyone else" attitude that macintosh seem to love. Also the general ideology that Macintosh users are somewhat unique, cool or in any way better than 'ordinary PC users' is another reason to bitchslap steve jobs if I ever get the chance.

One thing I will say about macintosh however, they're doing a GREAT job at keeping a small portion of the computer illiterate away from PCs. This saves me time deleting spyware, cleaning viruses and removing crap from people who really think that if the banner's blinking they're the 1,000,000 visitor and win a prize.

It's the self-prescribed elitism of Mac users that is infuriating. Case in point this kid is looking at the Macs and telling the sales assistant he made a load of money from programming and now he wants a Mac which will totally kill any PC on games.

I guess Jobs saw the light and saw Macs slipping back into the wilderness again unless he cut costs and further increased compatibility ala Intel processors and Boot Camp.

xenox101 it sounds like you've never used a modern apple product :(

i'm not going to try to change anyones mind, but i have mac(s) pc(s) and our servers are a mix of freebsd and linux, i've ran everything from dos, to windows 3.1 to sunos on various homebrew pc's all the way up to sgi workstations when i was doing graphic design... from my experience however, mac wins hands down on creating things that are less about working ON the computer and more about working WITH the computer on projects... osx as an os is still so unbelievably ahead of windows, microsoft is STILL stealing ideas from it for upcoming vista, and when vista launches leopard will launch... and with the few features i've seen so far it already blows vista out of the water... people should run whatever they want on whatever computers they want, as long as it helps them either have fun or get their work done quickly :)

generally mac's used to be overpriced... however its getting closer and closer now, especially now that the new imac duo core is out with a 24inch monitor for around 2grand... but yes.. you can build a cheap pc for a lot cheaper... you also generally sacrifice other aspects tho.... i'm all for building your own computers and shit, but on my mac's i like the fact that nothing breaks on them, and upgrading the shit in them is basically like using legos because everything has a standard design, its not a matter of making sure x works with y motherboard and drivers bla bla... so keeping a fixed hardware pool has its pros and cons ;P

if i was just a hardcore computer gamer i'd probably fight more on the merits of a pc because of all the choices you have with different super high end video cards and shit, but i believe that *MOST* of the best games are on consoles...

at the end of the day however its all about whats right for your style of computer use.... i'd have to say that i prefer mac's to pc's running windows now... and ever since i heard that upgrading to vista single user license from your old ver of windows is going to be almost 500$..... i'm not going to change that opinion any time soon.......

as far as the overpricing *NOW* that its intel based its actually the opposite effect more powerful macs are now cheaper... not saying they are cheap... but they are basically packing 2x (at least) the power of the last gen macs at about 80% of the price...

i agree with you yak on the basis of macs are better for graphic design and other similar fields...but the easy upgrading you speak of is just the lack of options. the only thought needed into upgrading say a video card is if its AGP, PCI, or PCI-e. now i dont have the right to bash mac because i dont own one...but theres a reason for that. i built my own computer and im gonna keep building my own until i die or get lost in the technology.

the ONLY reason i have a PC is the software. No way am I going to use some psudeo windows program on macs for the network in my office. Sure there are better email and word processing programs and such, but I use a certain databse software specific for my industry, and a computer fax server that links to this databse software. Then there is the expense factor, Macs are more expensive, also there are those new computer appliance machines that wil cut PC prices even more.

    This line in the move, "The Pirates of Silicon Valley" sums it up the best;

Steve Jobs (to Bill Gates): "My product is BETTER!!!"
Bill Gates: "You don't get it Steve, It doesn't matter"

Yes, PCs and Windows fucking suck, but it doesn't matter.

Macs are not better at graphic design and other multimedia! Geezuz... You morons let the fancy/gay mac design fool you.

It's been known that Wacom tablets have a slower response time on a Mac than a PC... So... I don't know many graphic designers who DON'T use a wacom tablet... And even if they didn't, the Mac has a one button mouse... How the hell does that make it better in Maya or Painter or Photoshop or 3D Studio Max (Oh wait! It can't run Max! Bummer... That's like the premiere 3D program for games) ?

Look... All that matters is the fuckin' RAM and a REALLY GOOD Moniter when it comes to anything multimeda and design related on a computer. Not the fucking swooping clear white design of a computers tower.

:P I don't really care what's good or bad. I got Linux... and it wasn't by choice.

PC = Better software and the ability to upgrade. Oh and a two button mouse

MAC = Graphics and music software and having to buy a whole new MAC to keep up with technology changes. Oh and a one button mouse.

Those commericials just piss me the fuck off. I really wanna see the Linux penguin hope in and kick both their asses.

I spent 4000 bucks on a PC, and I am not about to say Macs are better. I am in it for the games, Oblivion, Quake 4, Half-Life 2, F.E.A.R. ... good shit running smooth. The only Mac I ever used was at my high school and that 1 button round mouse pissed me the fuck off. Plus I get kick ass deals for computer parts from Turkey :) Got a Pentium D 3.4, NVidia 7900 512MB, 4GB Dual Channel Memory. I put it all together myself with two dell 21" monitors.

Mac has supported 2 button mouses for a long time now. What most of you don't realize is that Macs can run any software now. Like Yak said, you can even run windows on your Mac and do all that crap that you have to with windows, then go back to Mac OSX to actually get stuff done. Even when I owned a company that builted and serviced PCs, I still prefered to use a Mac.
I would own onw my self, but they are way too expensive.

This debate has and probably will go on until the end of time. I have been a PC user my entire lifetime and absolutely love PCs. However, as of recently I decided to purchase a mac now that they have the Intel chipsets. To be entirely honest with you it completely blows my PC out of the water. I have both OS X and Windows XP on their own dedicated drive in the machine and each OS runs flawlessly. Really the only reason I have XP on my computer is because programs like CS2 and Pro tools run faster on this machine since there is no universal binary for these programs, yet. About the two button mouse, as others have said OS X has supported a 2nd mouse button for years now its just that Apple being the way they like to be decided not to include the hardware with their machines. My Mac Pro came with their "mighty mouse", while it looks like a white version of the clear mice that came with the G5s, it has the functionality of two buttons, just one surface. There is a sensor under the mouse that detects if your finger is on the left or the right side of the mouse. Everyone will always prefer one platform over the other but these new Macs have opened the door for everyone, I just ask that people actually try them for themself before blindly bashing either platform. Not to mention these Mac Pros have two Intel Xeon CPUs, equating quad core, server CPUs. 1.33Ghz FSBs, 4MB L2 cache on each processor, I really mean these things scream and Windows has never been so fast. You try to buy these processors and build your own, you cannot build a cheaper PC with the same components as you would have to spend $1000 for each processor.
