I think that I would like to point something out and I think this picture is the right place to do it. People say that America is a violent country and that we cause alot of the problems in the world. However, America has only had one civil war, which was about about 160 years ago, and we didnt do it because the catholics didnt like the jews, we did it to stop slavery, which we suceeded at. We are now a country of refuge for millions of people from around the world. Also we get involved in wars to get the job done, we saved europes ass in WWII, and as bad as it is going now Iraq will someday be a better place because we overthrew the dicator in about two weeks, pretty good time to overrun a country...by ourselves. Furthermore, to the French....as much as you may not like us, the only reason you aren't speaking German right now is because we came over and saved your asses, so go back to making love and try to stay out of the way when the fighting starts. It is true that we are a country were violence occurs, it is how we built ourselves to be so strong. Poor leadership does not equal a poor nation of people, infact this nation is probably the most divers nation in the world. Now with that being said, let the bashing comments begin.

You fail to acknowledge that you owe France a certain debt of gratitude for their involvement in your American War of Independence. In fact the British are said to have formally surrendered to the French. Perhaps without their assistance, the US would not have gotten off on the right foot that it did.
Also lets not acknowledge a number of forceful interventions since independence in the matters of other states simply out of self-interest which has blotted an otherwise positive history.
Pigroast the Lincoln didn't enter into civil war to free slaves. Emancipatino of blacks was not his priority. It was keeping the union together. You will probably never understand this or hear about it in your own country but there are actually points of view in this world that suggest the civil war was a bad idea, that it did little to help black people in the 100 plus years subsequent, and that Lincoln, the great immancipator was one of the worst presidents in US history. (Even worse than Jr himself.) What would this world be like if the US did divide into two different countries?

dik... americans invented slavery? I'm pretty sure slavery's been around a lot longer than America. (Jews anyone?) The african slave trade was a british endeavour and many more slaves were sent to south america than were ever sent to the north. I'm pretty sure the USA is the only country that fought a gov't sanctioned civil war as a result of slavery. It's just that people get confused and swayed by the mythology as though Lincoln was doing it because he was so appauled by slavery. The entire country was fighting over slavery and the south said they would leave the union. Lincoln said "nigga please."

There is not a single fucken person left on the face of the earth that can recall any REAL events of any nation. History books are made up of just as much BULLSHIT as Religion. Actually the French also supplied some troops and took part in a great number of the naval battles. My recollection of history from high school is that the French-Indian wars took place prior to the war of independence. You also fail to grasp that conflicts with France after your war of independence were essentially with an entirely new country given that soon after they had their revolution. A new nation born from the flames of an old one isn't going to exactly behave the same as before is it? Not to mention preferring to trade with its former enemy, England over its allies during their struggle for independence.
And finally if you want to make an accusation, then make sure I actually said something along those lines. My criticism was of various foreign interventions the US has undertaken out of self-interest. I did not question the merits of living there. In fact as I stated BEFORE, I am of a mostly positive opinion of the US.

Actualy here in America this peace sign to me actually represents the basis for peace. There is always someone somewhere who wants to fight if you have the might to either discourage a conflict or to end it quickly there will be peace. Also the 2nd constititional amendmant is in my opinion the only one that guarentees the rest.
If we could really, truly pull it off, I would be all for "Fortress America". If America took a break for 100 years by literally closing our borders, ignored the rest of the planet and let them fight it out with zero military OR economic intervention (goodbye foreign aid), we'd wake up and find maybe a few million Chinese and some Australians left. All of the rest would be a smoldering, starving mess.
