Great Britain was the ONLY one who had the balls to stand up to Hitler after he invaded Poland. We declared war on him and stood alone for an entire year.
Its really funny when Americans claim to have won the war after entering late. Britain poured all of the military and economic resources from across the Empire into doing the right thing whilst your knee trembling government perpetuated the 'America First' policy.
EVENTUALLY (after you were first attacked) your government grew a backbone and did the right thing.
We were left broke, the Russians exanded their borders & America ended the war richer than ever, untouched by bombs & with more supplies than you could handle. Very noble!

I like to read historical accounts of WWII. Ambrose is my favorite (American viewpoint), and your "version of history" at the end of your post raised an interesting question. I wonder if you took the most accepted texts by the public school system in the US and UK, say for middle school aged kids, and compared them side by side, it'd be interesting to note the similarities and differences. Not saying one is right over the other, but since it's been sixty plus years, and most of the vets are dead it'd be cool to see how either country has bent their history, or bent it further than it originally was from the start...

See, the problem you have with that, is the fact that we generally improved the countries we colonised e.g. India. Then there is the issue of how they managed after we gave them independence e.g. Zimbabwe.
A large number of colonies still model their own system on our judicial system, our democratic system & civil service etc.
