seems like ADD became the sinister cousin of hyperactivity in the early 90's... though most doctors agree that it can be controled with diet and mental exercises.
No one has ADD, or hyperactive disorder for that matter. Some kids/adults minds work differently than others, for example not being able to keep focused on someone writing on a chalkboard for an hour at a time. Rather than recognize this fact and change up some of their teaching methods most schools would rather point the finger of blame at the (most times male) student and drug them into a stupor that helps them better fit into the mold.
An old friend of mine used to tell me that he had Seasonal Affective Disorder and when I told him I thought it was all bullshit, he...what?!? I do to have ADD.
I've experienced depression in the Minnesota winter due to the short daylight hours and having to stay inside most of the time. That doesn't make it a disorder. It's a normal thing, not some defect.
I'm experiencing it right now. I read that in Greenland or somewhere they started putting school kids in rooms with uv lamps for awhile each day and grades went up.. melanin from vitamin d=biological response.
This doesn't make much sense. Maybe, Vitamin D produced with help from UV light, which is more easily absorbed by people with low melanin levels would be better. Yes, Vitamin D production by the skin is a biological process. A normal, natural process.
for facts about vitamin d and such you just should look to lizards..
my big problem with this whole thing is... there are way more cases of people being depressed or having different issues in the past 10 years... when i was younger none of this shit happend but now its trendy or something ;/
"Mental disorder or mental illness are terms used to refer a psychological or physiological pattern that occurs in an individual and is usually associated with distress or disability that is not expected as part of normal development or culture."
I think it is totally natural to get depressed during long dark winters. Jesus, who doesn't love a bright summer day? I'm automatically in a better mood any time of the year if there is a bright, blue sky and fluffy white clouds overhead.
*Looks out at the dreary, grey sky and begins to cut self*
It's a great racket. No one is allowed to give medical advice without a license, and if you go against the grain they'll take away your license. What a great way to make sure we get a fair and balanced view.
"No one has ADD, or hyperactive disorder for that matter. Some kids/adults minds work differently than others"
How the fuck do you completely contradict yourself in so few words? It is the fact & way in which that they work differently that is used to determine whether someone has ADD or dyslexia.
No, its a brand placed on those who learn and think differently so as not to fit into accepted classroom learning scenarios. Just because your mind works differently doesnt mean you are afflicted with some awful disorder. If youve been labeled as such, your only crime, as I said, is being/learning differently than others. My point being is society has made up an illness which does not exist in order to bend the different around the system, otherwise the system would have to bend around the different. Hope that clears it up.
I am one, by the way.
Its all in the name 'Attention Deficit Disorder', does exactly what it says on the tin. It simply means that the way our wind works limits our attention to tasks which we have little interest in. I know pretty much everyone loses attention in things like that but, for us its just a bit worse.
Im really sorry if im annoying you here because I agree with you that ADD is a brand but its a perfectly legitimate brand. Its not a disease, no, it is however something that exists & therefor it requires a title.
From my personal experience, I wouldnt say we learn differently, we learn just the same. Its just that If im not interested in something I find it really hard getting it done no matter how easy it is. On the other hand I could spends days sat with books, journals & the internet researching something that interests me, even if it isnt required what so ever.
Thats because a) you dont have it & b) it is like a normal person, just worse. Thats why I dont tell uni because I dont think people should be allowed extra time on exmas because of it...how noble of me.
I don't think that depression and other things are more trendy, but more talked about. People had to act happy because it was accepted. Being emo and pretending to have many mental deffects is now trendy and taking meds for these "problems" is trendy. Having depression sucks, and I sure don't do it to be trendy and fit in. I don't take the meds though, I tried it and it didn't do shit for me.
In the west we see it as schizophrenia, a permanent disorder than requires a lifetime of treatment. And in the west, people have it for life. In places where they see it as a temporary condition that comes and goes, it tends to come and go.
I believe it was an area of Europe where people were being struck with a new disease with very odd symptoms. The only place it had ever appeared before was on tv, on a soap opera, broadcast locally in that area. People's expectations determine a lot about how a disease affects them.
Well, I agree that bipolar and all of that junk arent real.
I have seen enough to support what they are saying.. BUT, I myself have ADHD.. Although you guys may think that ADD/ADHD is a mental disorder that the schools just 'blame'wich is partially true, I think that the meds they give me work great.
Its too bad my meds cost like 275 a script.
The issue isnt about curing because the brain cannot be changed its a case of dealing with the issues. I had help when I was younger with dyslexia & im sure as shit better of now because of that help.
That wasnt meant as a reply to anyone on here. Its a perfectly reasonable independent comment, aimed at the fact the people in the video were instsiting that the psychiatrists need to 'cure' someone.
You should know that this is part of a Scientology propaganda film and they want to sell you their 'religion'.
I have spent a great deal of time working one on one with people in 'the nut house' and I have seen first hand, that yes, there is a such thing as being mentally ill.
Having said that, I do feel that psychiatry has gone overboard in dealing out drugs to people who do not need them. Part of the problem is that Mommy and Daddy don't want to be bothered by little Johnny acting like a child and so they have him pumped full of drugs. Part of the problem is that Ms. Jones is annoyed that little Johnny won't sit still and quiet during her 3rd period history class. Part of the problem is that the pharmaceutical industry has bought its way so deeply into politics that they've been able to write laws that govern their industry. Because of that, they (the pharmaceutical industry) have been allowed to direct market to you and convince you that you have SAD, UPSET, DroopyWeiner, or PoopyPants and need to take a special pill to feel better. If you live in the U.S youâve no doubt seen the ads and know exactly what Iâm talking about.
That bullshit is a major part of the problem.
Psychology on the other hand is very different. For one, a psychologist works with psychotherapy and we believe the root of a person's issue can be resolved, not by drugging them, but by getting them to find within themselves what the issue is, addressing it, and working to resolve it. Psychology does not rely on drugs but instead on communication. A lot of people figure out what their problem is when theyâre given a chance (with someone they can trust) to spill their guts to in a safe environment. You might be shocked to know how much of your concept of self is directly related to events from your early life.
A good way to see the difference between psychiatry and psychology is to think of it like a toothache.
Your jaw hurts, your face swells and you feel like shit...
Psychiatry is like giving you pain medication for the pain, an anti-inflammatory for the swelling and not treating the real problem that lies at the root of the tooth.
Psychology is like drilling the tooth and treating the cause instead of the symptom. Once your tooth is fixed you donât need the drugs to ease the symptoms.
Is schizophrenia real? The AMA and those who work in the field are currently debating that issue. Some believe that it's actually misdiagnoses of other issues and some believe that it doesn't exist at all. I'm sure we'll see a redefinition of that term in the next few years. When you consider this question keep in mind that A.I.D.S was once misdiagnosed as cancer. Today we know better.
Additionally, a psychiatrist is also a medical doctor and able to write prescriptions that psychologists are not.
In short - Scientology is a propaganda machine.
The pharmaceutical industry is happy so continue selling shit so long as people keep buying it.
Real psychology relies on communication not drugs, & they fix the cause not the symptom.
Psychiatrists > psychologists.
Yes thats how southpark works & what makes it so great. They parody real life situations in the lifes of children. Everyone should like it or they dont get it, simple.
Comments to Psychiatry debunked
I had a chemical imbalance in my brain last night after inhaling paint thinner.
Try drinking it next time.
but i thought ADD was proven reals.
: (
Both ADD & dyslexia have their doubters - Fuckers

Psychologists are quacks.
Psychiatrists are quacks with an M.D.
An old friend of mine used to tell me that he had Seasonal Affective Disorder and when I told him I thought it was all bullshit, he...what?!? I do to have ADD.
SAD has a scientific physiological explaination... UV light.. etc.
You are sad.
I've experienced depression in the Minnesota winter due to the short daylight hours and having to stay inside most of the time. That doesn't make it a disorder. It's a normal thing, not some defect.
i have a sad friend
And Dr. Hank has the remedy, more beer!
I'm experiencing it right now. I read that in Greenland or somewhere they started putting school kids in rooms with uv lamps for awhile each day and grades went up.. melanin from vitamin d=biological response.
Sure, sure. They light therepy in some places. You meet as a regular group in really bright rooms and hang out, shoot the shit, play games, etc...
Still, it's a normal, natural thing. I have a problem with calling it a disorder.
melanin from vitamin d=biological response.
This doesn't make much sense. Maybe, Vitamin D produced with help from UV light, which is more easily absorbed by people with low melanin levels would be better. Yes, Vitamin D production by the skin is a biological process. A normal, natural process.
Too tired to argue, but I'll agree with your "more beer" prescription. It works wonders for me.
for facts about vitamin d and such you just should look to lizards..

Yep, street drugs slightly modified and given a fancy name made to treat an imaginary disease.

Well, They have M.D's.
I'll just go ahead and believe them.
Yes, always trust and believe those in positions of authority. That's what I always say.
It's a great racket. No one is allowed to give medical advice without a license, and if you go against the grain they'll take away your license. What a great way to make sure we get a fair and balanced view.

ryoga was always depressed because he thought it was trendy.
Well I had my suspicions but now that I've seen it posted on mucho it's fucking true!
So is sczhophrenia not real?
its just a bunch of people being assholes and need an excuse to be assholes?
I don't know. I've seen some pretty convincing schizos. What about Dissociative Identity Disorder? (multiple personalities)

That didn't really happen. It's all in your head.
Welcome to the church of scientology! We are all alien spirits as well, they forgot to add that at the end of the video.
Sweet. What a fucking great job. I should have become a psychiatrist.
I've got SAD, because I get sad in the winter. Waaaaaahhhhhhhh!

He didn't get banned.

Let me finish this up:
Random Memeber: Did plantshit get banned?
Yak: Why would we ban plantshit?
Borracho: Why not?

Scientology propaganda.

So, who wins in the end?
The drug companies, Of course.
Isn't it great how these fuckers laugh when asked "how many patients have you cured" ?
The issue isnt about curing because the brain cannot be changed its a case of dealing with the issues. I had help when I was younger with dyslexia & im sure as shit better of now because of that help.
Maybe you should get some help with the reply button next.
fail oranje i'm embarrassed for you
That wasnt meant as a reply to anyone on here. Its a perfectly reasonable independent comment, aimed at the fact the people in the video were instsiting that the psychiatrists need to 'cure' someone.
so GET FUCKED, both of you..noobs!
