With the standard deviation and a mean, you can calculate percentiles. Percentiles tell you the percent of people that have a score equal to or lower than a certain score.

I took an IQ test when I was little, apparently. Something about me being too young for my grade, so they tested me to see whether I should be held back or moved forward. But I'll keep my peace on the results. You'd all call 'bullshit' anyway, and you wouldn't be wrong to do so. It's too easy to lie on the internet. And anyway, the whole concept of "IQ" is a fucking joke.
It is a great way of measuring abstract reasoning.
Granted it doesn't definitively give a score on other types of intelligence but they generally correlate.
I tested really high as a kid, but I guarantee I wouldn't get anywhere near as high now. I was higher than 136.

I don't know very many people at all who know their own IQ score, past or present, so either very few parents tell their children what score they got, or saber is wrong. He's probably thinking of placement tests children take before starting school, but that's not the same.
But anyway, as people have pointed out, IQ scores change drastically as we age, more often for the worse. Are we to believe we become less intelligent as we grow up? No. A test like that is way too conditional and objective to be valid.

If you want an accurate measurement, then no. You'll have to stop being cheap & pay for a supervised test. They aren't expensive, just check out any high IQ society.
