I know I'm leaving myself open to all manner of obvious jokes, raw horse meat is a fairly common thing here in Japan and it's really good.

That's a hard one Cap'n. It's a red meat. It's raw and tender. It has a good, meaty, not too fatty taste. It's served with a little grated ginger and soy sauce. It's considered a type of sashimi.
It's called basashi. The ba part means horse. The sashi part is the same sashi in sashimi, which basically means slice(d). Give it a try if you ever have the chance.
Oh, I also had the chance to eat a new meat last weekend, wild boar. Not too exotic or anything, but fairly hard to come by here. It wasn't nearly as gamey as I thought it'd be.
Whats the obsession with raw meat? I have had sushi and I didn't really like it but isn't it really unhealthy to eat any sort of red meat uncooked?
Oh and you've probably had wild boar before. Alot of farmers keep their pigs in the woods so they don't have to feed them. Thus they have to forage for themsleves and are essentially feral. Akthough I will agree with you its not gamey at all.
Try wild duck though if you want gamey. By far the nastiest thing I have ever shot and eaten. Farm fed duck on the other hand...
I think it's pork and chicken that are dangerous, but red meat is basically ok. A rare steak is uncooked in the middle, just warmed up a little. People love that shit.

Most domesticated pigs are raised such that they can be eaten a bit more rare than a few years ago. Most of the parasites and shit have been eliminated from them. Although, I doubt you'll ever see anyone serve it raw....
