In all fairness Jerks...this was probably one of the shittest parts of any episode you could find. People here seriously need to watch a FULL episode...then they'll love it...America loved it enough to give Ricky Gervais more awards than Phelps on a crack pipe, and a lucrative career as a typecast character in about 25 movies...oh, and he (and Merchant) had a major part in the writing AND production of the US version. Much of it is identical...including the love story.
Spaced was great in its day.
Brasseye had its moments (check out the 'scandalous' 'nonce sense' episode.)
Coupling was really good (I didn't even know about it until my US wife got me into it).
Red Dwarf was pretty great at times...looks painfully dated now though, but I know a lot of Americans love it...a la Python cult status.
IT crowd...has a few good moments...as does 2 Pints.
Try earlier seasons of 'My Family' for a decent Brit sitcom, and definitely check out In Sickness and in Health with Alf Garnett for some classic bigotted/racist sitcom action they'd never allow these days.

The main thing here though is that I think all these threads totally scupper anyone's belief that British comedy is 'shit'. It's not. There have been some absolute classics...but a definite dearth over recent years. Harry Enfield was great in his day. I don't think his new stuff works.
Little Britain/Little Britain USA has had a few good moments, also the League of Gentlemen. Wow, the list really is long.
Americans do their stuff well, and we do ours well...just most often, the crossover doesn't work...take the dreadful US version of Fawlty Towers, 'Payne'. Shudder.
League of Gentlemen wasn't really a comedy, it was just a freaky TV series with a million and one horror movie references, that you just had to laugh at because the alternative was crying. I still love it though.
