Unfortunatly that is not the future...
hmm, well, without any mechanicals pedals, etc. and running off of a computer cable, it's possible to use any game controller to control the vehicle... so, where can I get one of these??
you will NEVER see this in your life time. want to know why? because there are still afew trill barels of oil left in the ground. This concept is OLD. VERY old. been around since the 70s. Just ask yourself for one second, we have had cars for 100 years now, and we are still using a combustion engin. We cant even get a car to go much more than 30 MPG. But the first geo metro got 70. Dont think for a second the oil industry will just role over and let you drive for free.

and Ryoga's right about this one ;) ...the technology's been around for a few decades now but it's never going to be available on the consumer market until the oil companies run out of product
just remember.....we are an oil based economy. now with that said...i am really starting to hate the oil companys... but i also do not want our economy to go down the drain....so untill we can get to these type of cars we have to do something between now and then....and that is E85 fuel and the conversion of coal to oil. If we did these 2 we could supply our own country with enough fuel till we change to hydro and electric cars. we have to quit getting oil from the mid east and that citgo nut in south america.

Well first of all hydrogen cell vehicles still require a prohibitively expense amount of platinum, the same problem which initially made catalytic converters too expensive.
And coincidentally there have been methods to power cars using any sort of combustible liquid such as oil and kerosene since the 70's which was more fuel efficient and similar in performance by use of a furnace to power a steam engine.
It's funny how people simply blame oil companies when 90% of all known reserves are owned and almost soley extracted by national governments for huge profit or royalties. Only in the past few years has refining attracted back large <economic> profits.
Perhaps instead of renationalisation of oil reserves, governments should encourage more private investment seeing as it would force greater efficiency in the industry as via 100% profit motivation, it would not carry the largesse most government controlled and manipulated companies do.
Sure, some will say that won't work because oil companies can simply collude to keep prices artificially high but remember that although OPEC has lasted longer than most cartels, it has never been 100% effective in restricting members' production quotas. A member is always seduced into exceeding their quota to scoop up extra profit but at the same time drive down the price.

@kabbakick - the guy that made the blow torch that was fuelled by water then used the same electrolysis method to fuel a car is still around and actually has a company that's still doing research and development on producing a hybrid water/gasoline car, as well as selling his water fuelled gas generator...check out http://www.hytechapps.com

I think what most people are forgetting is that oil companies will not go down if cars alternate to h2o as a means of fuel. This will greatly decrease the need for oil companies and therefore change economy through fuel drastically, as well as making millions lose jobs.
However, people move on, jobs will be made available in researching this new fuel and other related fields of work, parts dealers for these cars will open up and evolution will continue.
People need to stop backing out on things because of the sacrifices or losses required to move forward (ofcourse, within limits). There will always be a loss for every gain, that is part of life, however if the end result is better for the world then it is a loss worth carrying.
Not only will this benefit us due to water being almost free, but there will also be less pollution, o-zone layer damage, and less global warming. While it obviously won't cure all these problems, it certainly would help.
As for the cars being dead, that will most likely be sorted, as the guy in the 70's who made a car that ran on water probably didn't have the funds for the research, tests, trials and improvements that would've been required to design a more succesful prototype. I highly doubt the first design of a petrol-running car was a complete success without flaws.

We're already being charged for water... They'll just raise the price on it. And start buying lakes, rivers and sections of the ocean. That'll be great. Being charged for something as abundant as water. Next thing you know they'll start selling us our air.

All that hydrogen that can be extracted from water needs lots of electricity, which will have been made by burning fossil fuels, theres not much point unless you can get plenty of renewable electricity first.
