doom isn't still played today... IMO half-life should be higher. counter-strike is the most played competitive FPS in the history of the world. its popularity is still surging today over TEN YEARS after it was first released. i might be a little bias... traveling to tournaments paid for all of my college vacations, road trips, and beer.
Wrong. I played Doom 3 MP last night, It's still as good as any FPS.
Doom is still played... it was released open source and updated to become zdoom and zdaemon. I played Zdaemon up until about 3 years ago, and it was very popular. It's the fastest First Person Shooter multiplayer out there and makes everything else look like a faggy british tea party.

This was a good list with valid arguments and thou roughly thought out. However, I do believe that Everquest had more of an impact on the world than Ultima. You didn't hear about some UO fanboi fag blowing his brains out over a game till EQ hit the shelves.
