Did you miss the part where they were congratulated for making the kills, and encouraged with promises of rewards such as several days of leave? Or the part describing middle-of-the-night raids that terrorized families? In other words, the parts that indicate this wasn't just a few sick fucks who were out of control?

every war has guys who sign up just to let their pre-teen social aggressions manifest into random murder free of any consequences they would normally meet at home
he said, i believe, it is a little garbbled, that he killed the guy on the bike because they were in a fire fight earlier in the day, this isn't a guy taking out 'pre-teen social aggressions', its millions of troops being unbelievable amounts of stress after to many tours (tho one is probably one to many) in a country were near everyone hates them or wants them dead, dealing with a culture they aren't equiped to deal with, trying to solve problems that started hundreds of years before they arrived and will continue for hundreds more, regardless of their presence.
