There is nothing wrong with decent tequila. But I have a theory about why it has the reputation it does (bad). See, I think those nights when some asshole shouts "tequila shooters!" are those nights when things are getting out of hand. You could be doing anything at that point, you are going to be sick because things are out of hand. But we blame the tequila because it's sort of a banner for the whole night. "It was a hell of a night... we even did tequila shooters!"

I think the differences there are legal v.s. illegal immigration, and small scale v.s. large scale. A more appropite comparison might include Africans or Muslims immigrating into Europe.

to be honest, i know a lot of americans that would like it if the borders were openned on canada and mexico, i would too really.. if it was made like the european union, where anyone in mexico usa or canada could go to any of those places and live and work without hassle

NAU also means a common currency. Do you want your dollar falling 30% over five years? At least the CAD has some stability due to the fact that Canada actually exports some useful things (Oil, food, etc.) Unlike the US that only exports Paris Hilton tv shows that the world could live without.

So the dollar falls. A balance of payments model would suggest that it will simply make exports more competitive and imports less attractive over this time and push an exchange rate back up a certain amount.
Obviously it's not as simple as that as most flows are to do with investment. So yes it means that it can upset the idea that balance of payments imbalances will eventually regress to 0. But it also shows that using traded goods and services as your gauge to the value of the dollar is also false.
There is a stronger correlation between interest rates and the exchange rate than with exports. Australia is a good example as its dollar used to follow commodity prices but now the exchange rate correlates more to interest rates than the recent mining boom.
Any such monetary union in North America would be a gradual process just like the EMU in Europe. Wide exchange rate bands which will narrow over time coupled with pledges on fiscal responsibility. It might kick the US into shape and force it to fix some unhealthy habits seeing as it theoretically couldn't just devalue its currency. Somehow I don't see the US surrendering those sort of sovereign rights. I'm not even going to bother mixing up sovereign rights issue with a debate about secret private banks owning the world.

In any case, the only problem I see with Canada's economy is their reliance on trade with the US. It won't get better because of an NAU, it will just become more american.
