I don't understand why big boxing fans take the mma overrun so personal, and always say ignorrant comments like "No rolling around on the floor like a couple of ufc homos." i mean... come on now... Don't get me wrong I love boxing, but I also love mma. eh. I guess you gotta have an open mind.
i've tried to like the mma shit. But I find all the rolling around just shitty. And from what i've seen it mostly is rolling around. Also when a guy's down and practically unconscious I really don't understand why they keep hittin and elbowing and shit. Seems dirty. Good boxing like this is two men toe to toe punching. Granted most boxing matches sure as hell aren't like this one.
True, but I still love to watch boxing. It's like a stand up chess match with hand. Aslo, true for mma. Most of there matches do end up on the ground, but I have a huge intrest in ground game, submission grappling, bjj, and just wrestling. It's like chess match on the gound using your whole body. I guess you just gotta have an intrest in it... To each his own.

K1 have had a few boxers go down like bags of shit. Most often than not, from leg kicks.... The cuddling is actually called grappling and its fucking hard..... Dik is old school and has an old school outlook on fighting as a sport. MMA is actually safer than boxing, in that strikes are spread over the whole body and not just focused on the old noggin :)

i agree with dik.. i have seen too many ufc fights where i want to see toe to toe combat (ie. fists and legs). doesn't it get on your nerves when your favorite fighter is pinned and can't get out for 2 rounds, and just when he gets out of it in the third round, he starts to kick some ass in a standing battle but loses to split decision.. kind of like tito ortiz and forrest griffin a few days ago.

MMA was pretty good til the Gracies came along and fucked everything up, made it incredibly boring to watch. Give me a good boxing match (like in the clip) or Muay Thai fight any day of the week over MMA.

^^^^ It's not martial artists v.s. boxers. A good boxer will beat a good kick boxer. It's MMA, or to put it clearer, a good grappler will beat a good stand-up fighter, whether it's boxing or kick boxing.
Once on the mat, and taking down someone is easier than knocking someone out, the stand-up fighter is defenceless.
Grappling is where it's at. Most MMA fights are decided on the mat.

A big issue in boxing is the reach advantage of whoever has the greatest, its sometimes only a couple of inches yet it can make all the difference. Now, think about the reach advantage you have with your legs, a leg kick coming from a a professional kickboxer connects with the power of a baseball bat. If you pit a talented boxer against a talented kickboxer under rules which allows them both to use their skills the kickboxer would win 9 times out of 10. Not only is that obvious its been proven a number of times.

The hands are used much more in fights allowing both kicking and punching.

Kicking skill is important in the stand-up fighting styles, but punching is more important.
That is my position on the subject.
It goes,
1. Grappling
2. Punching
3. Kicking
Not to say that you could be weak in any one area and still compete at the world class MMA level.

All depends on the time and place of the fight though, the importance rotates any number of times during any given fight, nevermind the matchup of the fighters.

Don't forget: the money is much better in pro boxing, so the best boxers stick with that. It's the lame ones that head into MMA. I don't think we've ever seen a full on pro boxer go up against a kick boxer; their handlers wouldn't allow it because the money wouldn't be worth the risk to their fighter.

"martial arts vs boxing, kickboxing vs boxing".. it really all depends on the fighter in the situation, and how prepared they are. you guys are looking pretty stupid right about now. if you haven't seen a boxer fight a kickboxer, or a mixed martial artist fight a boxer, then shut the fuck up and quit making stupid assumptions

God damn, I was waiting to start hearing the Rocky Theme Song. Rounds like that are few and far between in boxing these days. Usually they stick to dancing around the ring and popping jabs with an occasional hard hit landing every now and then. This round was impressive.

Boxing sucks IMO. I used to like it, but came to the realization that boxers are not "fighters". There boxers. In a REAL fight, a boxer would get taken down and beaten with ease. Just like an mma guy would lose in a boxing match. MMA is as close to "real" fighting as there is at the momment.
And to call it "gay" because you have to roll on the ground, is ignorant. Is breaking someone's arm gay? Or choking them unconcious gay? Go dance around a ring with pillows on your hands, dont worry if you get knocked down, you'll have 8 to 9 seconds to get back up... That is gay... relax buddy pull a knee, get a breather, because we all know that happens in a real fight.
Boxing is a watered down sport where all its good players are has beens. It's dieing little by little, good riddance
i say dik's an idiot. i didn't even read all of his shit but he's stupid. have you seen any of the boxers that try ufc/pride? THEY GET FUCKED UP. know why? because boxing is easy. it is ONE part of real fighting. mma includes everything except for cheap shots. one can't master all of the different martial arts and fighting techniques. however, with boxing, you can only learn so much.

An awesome display of courage from both boxers. Captain Spaulding is right. That match, potentially, was not organised by Don King and both fighters had a chance. It reminded me of Sugar Ray. Awesome.
Boxing fights are so boring. Aside from very few heavy weight bouts the fights always goes to the judges which alot if times ends up BS decisions. No one wants to win by that. UFC, Pride,etc fights have statisticaly less "go to the judges".
Also, MMA is safer than boxing. In Boxing you get knocked down, they give you a 10 count to get back up. When you do get back up, your brain already has minor bruising and then you get more blows to the head. In MMA, the ref stops the fight after the first knock down. Even if the fighter mounts a downed opponent and "rains down bombs", the ref will step in the moment that they see the downed fighter is not tryng to defend himself. And it seems there is more recovery time for an MMA fighter than for a boxer, which also leads to more head traume for the boxer.
Plus, in Boxing they do more hugging. All that hugging is more blatant faggotry than rolling on the matt.
Oh as for Boxer vs. MMA fighter...MMA fighter hands down. Both will start off on their feet, both using a bit of boxing to judge their opponents. The MMA fighter will use a left, right, outside leg kick - basic combo. The Boxer might coverup for the 2 punches but will never see the leg kick, followed by a clinch or take down. Once it's on the matt, the Boxer is easy pickings for a submission or T/KO by Ground n'Pound. There have been so-called "Pure Hitters" in MMA (golden glove boxers, muay thai champs, etc), and they usually do alright on thier feet, hell sometimes they actually win with a nice KO. But once they get taken down, its basically a one way street to sleepsville because they dont have the training to defend against it.
Boxers seem to train more for endurance, to be able to last the round(s). MMA fighters train for both endurance and knockout power.
