Seems clear enough to me. But I'm not a right-winger.
Say youre dealing with a true brainwashed fundamentalist who you know have info because (lets say for argurment sake) you stormed a militia meeting and all but one die and you capture him. You take him back to base and ask him why there were men with Iranian (again for arguements sake) IDs at the meeting...what would you do?
Give him a cupcake, say you're sorry for killing his friends, give him twenty bucks and send him home?
TG, you really need to learn the difference between a soldier captured as a POW and a terrorist - maybe then you'd be better able to apply GC articles. Second, it sure beats beheading, which the terrorists tend to favor when dealing with their enemies, which are never limited to soldiers but also include civilian workers, humanitarian aid workers, teachers and journalists.
I guess it would be ok if some muslim guys tortured you now, because you happen live in a country that keeps killing their people. How many people in those prisons do you think are planning on killing or blowing up anything, or even know shit? Politicians say its the worst of the worst, but the numbers betray their lies. For another matter, how many of the arrests made by our new homeland security have anything even vaguely to do with terrorism? They pretty much stopped publishing those numbers when it turned out to be less than 1/1000.

the flaw of the statement is it deals with prisoners of war. we arent in any official war per se. pretty sure anyway that its not done anywhere the geniva convention applies. oh wait dont ask dont tell (i made a funny) gays and politicalns can appreciate that remark

I think it's up to us as "humans" to develop other methods of obtaining information that could potentially save the lives of others, without maiming, torturing or causing mental anguish to another being. However until that becomes a reality, would I condone torturing 1 person to save a 1000? Fuck yea I would.
Yes America needs to change its foreign policy. No doubt about it, but Akbar w/e his name is needs to remember that his own people conduct far worse torture than waterboarding. Let's not forget all the non-combatants like camera men and the like that were captured, tortured and then had their fucking head cut off. Things have changed a lot since the times of the Spanish Inquisition. (which no one expects!) I find it rather laughable that people consider this "tourture" when there is so much worse that could be done. Seriously, this is the most gentle thing possible.

If I get it right, you people say : POW have to be from a regular army. Then they can be treated as the geneva convention implies. Right ? So you have civilians that don't fight, with wich you can't mess at all. You have soldiers that have very tight rights you have to follow. Then you have the rest, you call them terrorists, maybe that is a correct name, but that is not the my point. My point is : People working for blackwater and other privateers out there can be tortured then ? They are no soldiers, but they sure as hell aren't normal civilians ... . They activly take part in the war and take part in the fighting, but are no soldiers. So ...

your cousin is quite possibly involved in terrorist...orginizations to what extent you dont know.
you fail a lie detector test because they asked if you knew anyone involved in terrorist activity.
they lock you up in a prison in cuba and begin doing this to you for seven days straight depriving you of sleep even though you have told them everything you know.
they are content with your information and they leave you in this jail in foreign country without any formal charges.
now granted i am sure most of the people in guantanamo deserve to be there, but i bet you there is some who are completely innocent.

I know that innocent people get caught up in this shit, but I used an example where the detainee was definitely guilty and having sole knowlege. In that sort of scenario, where innocents are in physical danger, ANY method of getting information must surely be justified.
Fuck the spring water, they wouldn't give us that luxury. They should have pissed on his face. Also, what's so bad about putting a wet towel over somebody's face and pouring water on it? Simply because one method isn't as bad as another doesn't discount the fact that it's still torture. I've no problems with someone who condones torture, if they themselves have experienced it. If Senator John McCain said "Torture is A-O.K. in my book", then I could see the general public getting behind it. But for anyone who is pro-torture, I challenge you to experience what you support for any length of time, then see how justified it is. We as a society cannot take the moral high ground on torture of any kind, then say something like "We could be doing something worse" or "They do worse things to our captured, so they should be thankful we don't employ their tactics".
