How come countries with very relaxed gun laws, like Switzerland and Israel, also have lower murder rates than your gun-control Japan and the UK?
Oops, I forgot you're only supposed to to compare the US to less violent countries that happen to have gun control, to prove that it works...

I guess that's why gun control never, fucking ever, results in a drop in the murder rate. Only a rise. But if we keep trying I'm sure it'll work sometime!

As for Pussyhand's idea, there is some value there. In a study of Canadian cities, number of guns and gun ownership had a very weak negative correlation with the murder rate. Number of immigrants in the city had a very strong correlation. But of course, we're not allowed to find out why, because even saying such a thing is automatically racist.

There wasn't in Israel or Switzerland either, even though you legally walk around with some pretty hardcore guns. If guns cause more murder, these countries should be fucking death traps. But they have lower murder rates than Japan, Canada, the UK, etc.

Guns also make it easier to kill, both physically and psychologically. (This would seem to be an obvious point)
If the most recent nutcase to go on a shooting spree hadn't been able to get any guns, how would that have affected the murder rate, I wonder?
The states is going to have a higher murder rate than the UK even if you get rid of every gun tonight. Even if true murder rate was the same, the US rate would appear much higher because the UK doesn't include things that were plead down to manslaughter or lesser charges in their stats.
Anyway, americans are just more likely to kill each other - it has nothing to do with guns. At that trend is changing. With more relaxed gun laws, the american homicide rate has been falling steadily for decades and continues to do so, unlike Canada and the UK. If trends continue then the UK rate will surpass the American rate within a decade, even after the bad UK stats.
Also, the violent crime rate, for everything except murder, is much higher in the UK.
If you want to see the american murder rate look like the canadian or uk rate, then just look at the rates for non-blacks. It's about 2-4 murders per 100,000, which rivals any gun-control country. The rate for blacks is 10x that much, which kinda skews the results.
That's the rate of murderers, not the murdered.
