That's about the right-wing argument. Isn't it sad how the oil companies could rally an entire political party to be a huge group of blinded lobbyists? Then again, Republicans have always been fighting for corporations. For the people by the people! Wait, let me rephrase, for the CEOs and by the CEOs!
Yup, being a Republican just makes all kinds of sense, especially after how great they've done lately.
My final point is this:
If you're still a registered Republican you either:
a. need to turn off the radio
b. need to turn off the Christian channel (and/or Fox News)
c. learn about "science" and "logic" and "reason"
d. need to realize that throwing around the word "socialist" and "socialism" isn't a political stance, it's just retarded playground name calling.
e. need to realize that the free market has proven clearly again and again that it does not cure all ills.
f. need to realize that the private market, aka CORPORATIONS, are NO LESS CORRUPT than the Government. The only difference is that corporations have a board of directors while the government has three branches and uh the entire nation on their asses.
g. All the above

Hey empfag did you know worldwide that passenger vehicles account for about 2% of man-made CO2 emissions? They have a tiny impact. Guess who is responsible for the #1 place at over 20%? It's fucking governments, edging out industry by a few percent. And yet we have this cash for clunkers bullshit to fix a problem that doesn't exist while no one is out there saying you could help the environment by paying less taxes.
Also it's funny how worried people are when the antarctic ice sheet has been growing for decades and the arctic ice is at it's highest level since 1979. Not to mention that the sea level was rising significantly faster back in the 1800's when we first started to measure it accurately (at a time when we were putting way less CO2 into the air. )
The number one source of global warming is methane gas from all the republican bullshit.

Last time I checked, the vast majority of the pollution is created by private industries. You know... factories... cars... dumps...

Yep government comes in as the highest contributor. Yak's chart shows part of the reason in that power generation & waste disposal are big contributors and those are often run by governments. Passenger vehicles worldwide are a very small contributor although much larger in NA (it's somewhere around 15% for Canada and the US while just over 2% worlwide.)
The numbers likely don't reflect this but much of air travel happens because it is subsidized by government and this is a big slice of any transportation CO2 number. Very few of our airlines would be in business if we weren't all paying for them. As it is, approximately half the price of a ticket goes towards the gas so if you dumped 3 grand to visit a few cities then you've probably added more CO2 than the average dude with his SUV will produce in a year.
Industry comes in just after government, but just as no one is telling you to pay less taxes there is also no one telling you to buy less shit. In fact we are supposed to save the world by buying more shit... new car, new toilet, new weed whacker, new fucking kitchen stove.
Hell genius governments are coming up with great plans like burning 1 litre of fossil fuel to create 1.4 litres of ethanol... (a 40% gain they say!) and then we go and burn that and feel like we're doing the right thing. Awesome way to save the planet! While we're doing that, Canada and the US subsidize their oil industries with billions in tax breaks.
Again Wanko, you're throwing around a lot of numbers without anything to back them up. I'd like to see ANY proof of these numbers before you start regurgitating what you heard Rush Limbaugh say, thanks.

Funny how the oil industry is the second largest contributor to GOP campaign funds and it is always GOP reps and senators that fight anything about global warming.
