      hellonurse 2008-06-11T01:28:42Z says:

That's not too bad I guess. Liver is one of the most vile things to eat IMO. I've eaten souse, which I just Googled and found out is basically brain juice... so I guess I HAVE eaten brains? *gags* Thankfully I don't speak to my redneck father and will never have to eat it again. If somehow we reconcile, I will remember to bring the hot sauce!

    • yak
      yak 2008-06-11T01:52:37Z says:

the thing about liver is its one of the best things you can eat from any creature...
its basically a super food with how many nutrients it has...
i've personally never had liver, being that i worked at a superstore meat department doing late night cleanup for one of my first (and only) real jobs....
one day i had to "clean up" a garbage pail full of rotten liver... i've never smelled anything as bad as that to date.. and that was when i was like 18 ;/
wouldn't a brain tumor mostly taste kinda like fat and stuff like that?
as far as eating 'brain' i'd try it, not as a taco tho, since you wouldn't even taste it then... but i guess you'd get to "brag" that you had eaten brains... :P

    • AquaLunaTik
      AquaLunaTik 2008-06-11T02:12:06Z says:

Liver is very good tasting ( if fresh and prepared well ), brain I have eaten and I liked it (again fresh and cooked to a desired temp.)no bragging , just fact of life .

      yak 2008-06-11T02:15:48Z says:

yeah i think most people who have bad experiences with stuff like that its either not completely fresh or poorly prepared...
friend of mine.. his sister and her boyfriend at the time would go to malaysia and such and have monkey brains and snake dinners where each course was a part of the snake... i'd like to try it one day

    • AquaLunaTik
      AquaLunaTik 2008-06-11T02:25:46Z says:

I do want try snake ( but I would watch in the preparation), seen them skinned and they have a white meat , kinda like gator .

    • hellonurse
      hellonurse 2008-06-11T02:30:38Z says:

True, iliver is very high in iron, vitamins, and protein... but I just can't get over the aftertaste or the texture. I was forced to eat it as a child, as liver and onions was my fathers favorite meal. Not that my stepmother was the best cook, but I imagine that there's not too much you can do about either. Kinf od like cranberries... no matter what they add to it, I still get the aftertaste. Now snake and/or gator, I wouldn't mind trying.

As for how a brain tumor would taste... I definitely don't want to find out!! LOL.

    • yak
      yak 2008-06-11T02:40:06Z says:

yeah i bet snake would taste like gator... and gator with some nice remoulade sauce is awesome....
gator doesn't have a very strong taste, and its really meaty so kind of like steak in a way... generally breaded its good
although i'd eat a gator steak for sure :P
actually catfish and gator remind me of eachother... i think its just cuz of where they are from and what they are eating i guess...
does all cooked liver have that weird smell?

and wtf is wrong with cranberries? :P
what about crapes (cranberry grapes- dried cranberries)
      they are awesome :P
im still trying to get deja to re try eating mushrooms and snails ;/
although i hate tomatoes (sliced tomatoes gross me out) ;//

Before removing fish liver you have to remove the barg of bile attached to it without contamanating the liver , if it comes in contact with the liver it will have a bitter taste .

Deja said she refuses to eat fungus... I love cooked mushrooms though! Can you salt a cooked snail without it turning to mush? The Taco bell here isn't serving tomatoes because of the salmonella scare. I think they're just using that as an excuse to be cheap bastards, because the CDC said tomatoes grown in Tennessee were fine. Have you tried them cooked?

Cranberries have a dry bitter aftertaste, even Crasins. I'm not supposed to have cranberries anymore, which is fine by me, because I never liked them in the first place. Although a crape does sound interesting...

actually NO food places right now are serving tomatoes at the moment, and if you have any recently bought tomatoes you should throw them away...

i'm not sure if i'd salt a snail, i just have them basically boiled in garlic butter, and all they taste like is garlic butter and the texture is a pretty rare steak... so its awesome
as far as tomatoes go its just ... i dont even know ;)
diced tomatoes i'm fine with... salsa pasta sauce etc is fine.. just sliced tomatoes i've never liked.. i don't know if its the taste or just like... the fact that if you bite a slice of tomatoe you get a full mouth full of it or what ;)
with her and mushrooms i don't get it at all...
i try to tell her that not all mushrooms are the same, and some mushrooms are pretty much the exact replacement for like a steak or a burger.. but she doesn't believe me ;)
i got her to have yellow peppers lately tho so i'm at least making a bit of ground ;/
i made her a deal if i had sweet potatoes she would eat yellow peppers and she was fine with them (of course)
i'm not a huge sweet potatoe fan, i've had them so many different places and some of them were ok but some of them were so shit ;/
why aren't you supposed to have cranberries anymore? stones of some sort?

Interstitial cystitis. Basically a chronic inflammation of the bladder. Cranberries are very acidic and irritate it.

I love sweet potatoes and red, yellow, and green peppers. But then again, I also like asparagus and artichokes. As for mushrooms... truffles are ridiculously expensive, and honestly, I don't like them as much as portobello. You'll just have to chop them up really small so maybe she won't notice them. Just don't tell her I said that... (As if she won't read this... hahaha) Salt or no salt, I just can't bring myself to eat snails. Probably because I kept them and rolly pollies as pets when I was little. o_0

      NO DICE!
see.. with me and pets and eating them... thats where i'm different, i have like no attachment to any sort of pets i've ever had... i'd eat my bearded dragons, even a cat probably just to try :(
snails are EASILY the most succulent food i've ever had, cuz they just suck up whatever flavor they are around
one day i'm going to make a risotto or something and sneak mushrooms in it and she won't notice ;//
